Murphy out for Munster final

Cork defender Brian Murphy will miss the Munster SHC final against Limerick after sustaining a serious shoulder injury in a county senior hurling championship game yesterday.

Murphy had played a starring role for Bride Rovers in their second round win over Ballinhassig before being forced off in injury time after shipping a very heavy challenge under a dropping ball.

It was last night feared Murphy had broken his collarbone in the incident.

“Bride Rovers manager Pat Barry last night expressed sympathy for one of their star players: It’s a huge blow to Cork and to Bride Rovers but more so to Brian himself. When you’re lucky enough to have a Cork senior player on your team he becomes a leader. It’s hard to talk about it so soon after it happening but it’s a big blow.”
