Right corner-back Ryan McKenna, full-back Danny McBride and left half-forward Ciarán McGinley are all given their bows as the Red Hands have significantly overhauled the team which lost to Donegal in the Ulster championship.
Goalkeeper Pascal McConnell also returns to the side for the injured Niall Morgan, while Darren McCurry comes in at left-corner forward. Captain Stephen O’Neill and Dermot Carlin are also injured, with PJ Quinn having withdrawn from the panel since the defeat to the All-Ireland champions. Justin and Joe McMahon had both been struggling with injury in the interim and they are on the substitutes’ bench.
The one change in personnel on the Limerick side for their trip to Pearse Park to face Longford sees goalkeeper Brian Scanlon return after a quad injury to take the place of Donal O’Sullivan.
Jackie Tyrrell is back in the Kilkenny team for the Leinster SHC semi-final replay with Dublin in Portlaoise (7pm tomorrow) after he recovered from the quad injury suffered in the quarter-final win against Offaly.
Tyrrell replaces Paul Murphy, who has himself succumbed to an ankle injury. TJ Reid comes into the team at half-forward as Lester Ryan drops out, with Cillian Buckley going to midfield, and Aidan Fogarty takes the place of Colin Fennelly at corner-forward.
Harry Kehoe and Shaun Murphy — who makes his first championship start — form a new midfield for Wexford in their hurling qualifier tie at home to Carlow. Kehoe moves to the middle from wing-forward in a straight switch with Lee Chin, while David Redmond drops to the bench as Murphy comes in.
Elsewhere, London midfielder Mark Gottsche has emerged as a major doubt ahead of their Connacht semi-final replay against Leitrim on Sunday in Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon.
Gottsche was seeing a specialist yesterday to assess a groin injury he picked up in the drawn encounter. The midfielder picked up the injury in the first half of last week’s game and had to depart the fray prior to half-time.
