Murphy to take armband for Banner clash in Cronin absence
Patrick Cronin of Bishopstown was appointed captain earlier this year but will not start due a severe chest infection, though he’s hoping to play some part in the game. Murphy is one of Cork’s most experienced players having lined out in the All-Ireland finals of 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Meanwhile, Jamie Nagle is expected to be fit for Waterford’s All-Ireland SHC qualifier game against Offaly on Saturday evening, though Shane Walsh is a doubt.
Nagle, who starred for the Deise in their Munster defeat to Clare, injured an ankle on Sunday but is expected to recover. Walsh has a more serious hamstring issue, however, and faces a race against time to be fit in time.
