Geaney lifts injury-hit Dingle

Dingle dominated from the very outset although Kenmare, without Alan O’Sullivan (now with Dr Crokes) and Paul O’Connor, battled hard throughout.

UCC student Stephen O’Brien kicked 1-6, but all his points were from frees, and only wing-forward John Spillane of the Kenmare attack managed a point from play.

Dingle moved Mikey Geaney to the edge of the square from the start and Tadgh Morley just could not shackle him. With Brendan Kelliher a dominant figure at centre-back and Colm Benny Moriarty and Ryan Begley ruling the roost at midfield, Kenmare held the lead for just two minutes of this game, when Stephen O’Brien converted a first minute free.

With young Matthew Flaherty providing the supply, Mikey Geaney took over. After levelling the contest with a 3rd minute point, Geaney then collected a Flaherty pass and drove in along the end line to bury the ball low to the Kenmare net.

Dingle led by that goal (1-7 to 1-4) at the interval, but Kenmare failed to raise the intensity in the second period, only managing four points, all from Stephen O’Brien frees.

At the other end, Geaney added three frees, Daniel Ryan scored two beauties from play while Marc Evans, Cathal Bambury, Jack O’Sullivan and Matthew Flaherty, completed a fine win for Dingle, who will be stronger next time with their injured players back.
