Impressive Moran makes scoring return for Mayo

Andy Moran made his first start in Mayo colours since last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final in a challenge match against Cavan at James Stephens Park in Ballina.

Impressive Moran makes scoring return for Mayo

The Ballaghadereen man, who missed nine months with a torn cruciate, played 60 minutes, scored two second-half goals and made a first-half goal for Darren Coen in the 5-12 to 0-16 win.

However James Horan said there would be no timeframe put on Cillian O’Connor’s return to action.

“We’d be hopeful on Cillian O’Connor, we got the results of a scan and the situation as it stands is that it has to be assessed each week. We have no timeframe on his return as a result. We’ll be monitoring it closely from here and I can’t add any more.”

Former Galway United League of Ireland regular Alan Murphy also slotted home a couple of goals after his second-half introduction as the resistance form Terry Hyland’s Cavan wilted when they completely changed their team.
