Former Kerry forward Tommy Walsh will miss the rest of Sydney Swans’ season after his hamstring tendon tore off the bone against Essendon on Saturday.

Swans starlet Walsh out for rest of season

The 2008 Gaelic football young player of the year will have surgery next week.

“It’s a bad injury, it looked bad at the time and unfortunately the scans revealed it’s as bad as we thought,” said coach John Longmire.

“He only played a quarter and did it first bounce after quarter time so didn’t get much of an opportunity.”

Walsh is yet to establish himself in the Swans’ senior team. Longmire said it was disappointing he won’t get a chance to prove himself this season.
