The Butlersbridge man featured for Cavan during the 2010 championship but it ended in disappointing circumstances, picking up a red card during their defeat to Wicklow in the qualifiers. By accepting a job as a site manager in south London, he was forced to call time on his Cavan career, but little did he realise he was moving to a county where both the footballers and hurlers were about to scale new heights.

Mulvey was an interested onlooker as London defeated Fermanagh in the 2011 qualifiers, their first championship victory since 1977, and after he inspired Fulham Irish to their maiden senior championship later that year, it was only a matter of time before Paul Coggins came calling.
