President rules out relaxing of sideline regulations

GAA president Liam O’Neill has reiterated that there will be no relaxing of the regulations restricting the number of personnel on the sidelines of major games.

President rules out relaxing of sideline regulations

Despite criticism of the new procedures by a number of high profile managers and selectors, O’Neill is adamant the system will help improve gaelic games.

“This isn’t just about numbers, this is about trying to change a culture. We want fewer people on the sidelines; the fewer people the less the possibility (for trouble). I think they’ve worked really well. The sidelines are clearer, spectators in the front row are pleased they can actually see the game. There will be some tweaking needed, you don’t do something like this and expect it to work from day one, magically. Over time we’ll have to find places to accommodate them (selectors) away from patrolling the sideline but where they still have access. We’re working on that and have asked those counties that are hosting championship games to do their best on that.”
