Brogan ruled out as Gavin salutes Dublin resolve

The former Footballer of the Year was missing as Dublin claimed the Allianz League title yesterday — as he has been all year — due to the groin injury and subsequent operation which curtailed his 2012 championship.

Brogan’s return date has been shuffled further and further back for some time, from an initial point where he was expected to miss only the earlier rounds of the league to one where his contribution this year is still shrouded in doubt. If anyone can absorb the absence of a player of Brogan’s calibre it would appear to be Dublin, who claimed the Division 1 crown yesterday minus the services of the Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh forward and others including Ciaran Kilkenny, Cormac Costello, Philip Ryan and Paul Hudson.
