Mayo manager James Horan was still digesting the results from other games — and their ramifications — when he faced the press yesterday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Regardless of the up-country permutations, however, he was still delighted his side had shown the bottle to win an away game by a point.

“I’m sure it was exciting for the people watching,” said Horan. “You could hear the support today, you knew there was an extra pinch of spice too in how the crowd were reacting, so we just kept plugging away, kept trying to do the right thing. It was very hard to play football, so I’m delighted with the way they just kept going. We got the win and we get the benefits now.”
