Mercy omission accidental

Logistical reasons are believed to be the reason behind the Cork footballers not wearing jerseys featuring the Mercy Foundation logo in yesterday’s game in Newry.

Both the county board and the charity had signalled the team would promote it against Down as Cork continue to negotiate a new sponsorship deal. However, it is understood the grounds for the players sporting blank jerseys were completely accidental.

As first reported in last week’s Irish Examiner, online insurance company Chill.ie are heavily fancied to take over from O2 as county sponsors.
