Ward rescues Fermanagh

Antrim 2-9 Fermanagh 1-12

The visitors dominated most of the opening half but were rocked by Kevin Niblock’s 13th minute goal, which edged the home side 1-1 to 0-2 ahead. In the closing minutes Eoin Donnelly and Tommy McElroy sent over Fermanagh points to leave the sides level (1-2 to 0-5) at the break.

Fermanagh had the ball in the Antrim net moments after the restart but the score was disallowed. But two minutes later Fermanagh’s Daryl Keenan netted after an error by Antrim keeper Chris Kerr.

Two points from Ryan Murray kept Antrim in touch before Fermanagh reeled off four without reply to lead 1-9 to 1-5 on 51 minutes.

Antrim put in a strong finish, with Sean McVeigh racing through from midfield to lash a fierce shot to the net to put them 2-7 to 1-9 ahead with 12 minutes left.

Points from Sean and Conor Quigley had Fermanagh back ahead before Thomas

McCann and Conor Murray restored Antrim’s narrow lead. But, with the game in injury-time Ward converted a free which secured the draw and maintained his side’s unbeaten run to the campaign.
