Galway manager Anthony Cunningham was celebrating a doubly joyous weekend after his home club St Thomas’s and current club St Brigid’s qualified for the All-Ireland senior hurling and football finals on March 17.

Cunningham to have work cut out on Paddy’s weekend

Cunningham, who led Garrycastle to Croke Park 13 months ago when they drew with Crossmaglen before losing in the replay, is a native of Peterswell and played his club hurling with St Thomas’s. Since moving to Kiltoom, the Athlone IT software research manager has become heavily involved in St Brigid’s and guided them to a Connacht title in 2010 as well as two county titles.

St Patrick’s weekend will prove a busy one for him as he will manage Galway against Tipperary in Pearse Stadium the day after St Thomas’s and St Brigid’s face Kilcormac-Killoughey and Ballymun Kickhams respectively. The football final will also be special for St Brigid’s manager Kevin McStay who is a former Ballymun Kickhams player.
