UCD’s Billings eyes Sigerson revamp

UCD GAA officer Dave Billings believes association chiefs should consider running the Sigerson Cup on a round-robin basis and excluding college teams from pre-season inter-county competitions.

The premier third-level Gaelic football competition begins today, with one preliminary round game and seven first-round ties.

While the Fitzgibbon Cup, the Sigerson’s hurling equivalent, has a league format with fewer teams involved, the Sigerson is knockout, and Billings, a former Dublin senior selector, thinks that system needs to be revised.
