Fitzmaurice to end playing career if Finuge bow out

Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice, inset, will call time on his own playing career if Finuge lose to Cork Premier IFC winners St Vincent’s in tomorrow’s Munster Club intermediate football final.

Fitzmaurice to end playing career if Finuge bow out

A broken jaw sustained in the replayed Kerry final against Spa on November 4 has ruled out Fitzmaurice from the Mallow showdown.

And unless the north Kerry outfit progress to an All-Ireland semi-final tie in the New Year, Fitzmaurice will solely devote himself to his team-management duties for the foreseeable future.

“It would be too much for me to combine managing Kerry and playing with Finuge next year,” said Fitzmaurice. “I’ll be giving my full attention to managing Kerry.”

In addition to Fitzmaurice’s absence, the north Kerry club will have to plan without county ace Paul Galvin who received a straight red card in the semi-final against Limerick’s Pallasgreen.
