The Government came in for stinging criticism from inter-county GAA players following news their grants could be cut again in 2013.

Players vent fury at proposed grant cuts

Dozens of Gaelic footballers and hurlers used their Twitter accounts to complain after junior sports minister Michael Ring admitted the same level of funding for the grants wouldn’t be available next year.

Once standing at €3.5m in total four years ago, the scheme has since been cut twice and now stands at just over €1m with players each receiving approximately €400 to €700 based on their county’s championship progress.
