Niall Carew has resigned as selector of the Kildare senior and U21 football teams due to personal reasons, it emerged last night.

The St Kevin’s and Coill Dubh clubman has been an assistant of Kieran McGeeney since he became Lilywhites boss in late 2007.

A statement from team liaison officer Morgan O’Callaghan last night read: “Niall Carew has stepped down as a Kildare U21 and senior selector with immediate effect.
