Carrickshock shape up for county tilt with league title win

Carrickshock, captained by Offaly star, David Franks, claimed their first major title at senior hurling level in Kilkenny since their championship glory of 1951 when they won the senior league final at Nowlan Park yesterday.

A 46th minute goal from full-forward Michael Rohan proved the difference in their 1-15 to 0-15 victory over Ballyhale Shamrocks after the sides had been level on seven points apiece at the break.

All Star Richie Power top scored for the winners, landing nine points. Shamrocks, who were chasing a table topping seventh title, threw everything into attack in the dying stages but they couldn’t close the cap.
