Laois hurling was plunged further into crisis in the past week, after it emerged that only eight players attended an important meeting in Portlaoise on Monday night which was open to the entire 2012 panel.

This setback comes on the back of the prospect of the county playing in the Christy Ring hurling tournament in 2013, with Croke Park having offered Laois the opportunity to drop down a level after recent results in the All-Ireland senior championship.

The meeting was chaired by current Laois minor hurling boss Seamas Plunkett, and former player Paul Cuddy, who were appointed by the county board to act as intermediaries with the players.
