Though Tallow jumped into a 9th minute lead after William Henley’s superb goal, Dungarvan soon took control and led 0-8 to 1-4 at the interval.
Wind assisted, Dungarvan were ideally positioned to push on after the break. But Tallow, despite the loss of county man Paul O’Brien, started brightly and points from Shane Feeney and Tommy Ryan (free) had them ahead.
But then Dungarvan’s star man, Gavin Crotty, raced through for a goal and his side had regained a lead they would never surrender. The introduction of substitutes Karl Duggan and minor sensation Cathal Curran, also had a major impact for the winners, with Curran rifling over two fine points. Shane Kearney, Jamie Nagle, and Kenny Moore were to the fore while teenager Ryan Donnelly, with Crotty, remained Dungarvan’s big threat in attack.
Tallow, despite the loss of the influential O’Brien, battled valiantly, none more so than their former county star James Murray at centre-back and another county panellist, Tommy Ryan, up front. They never seriously threatened to claw back the deficit however, and Dungarvan’s dominance was best illustrated with superb late scores from Donnelly and Crotty.
