Carey injury clears as Counihan ready to unleash strongest side

Cork manager Conor Counihan will pick from a full panel of players when he names his All-Ireland semi-final team this evening.

Ray Carey had been the only fitness concern after damaging his hamstring in the quarter-final win over Kildare.

He subsequently missed Avondhu’s championship game but is expected to retain his right-corner back berth.

“At the moment, everybody is reporting a clean bill of health,” said Cork PRO Tracey Kennedy.

Paddy Kelly is expected to return to the starting team after an impressive showing as a substitute against Kildare.

Ciarán Sheehan could be the forward to lose out, after being replaced by Kelly.

Pearse O’Neill may also be considered for a starting role at the expense of either Alan O’Connor or Nicholas Murphy.

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness’s major concern is Martin McElhinney, who is nursing a knee problem that curbed the midfielder’s training the past couple of weeks.

However, fit-again Neil Gallagher is tipped to take one of the positions in the middle of the field.

Meanwhile, Meath minor manager Andy McEntee has brought in Robert Burlingham as his goalkeeper for Sunday’s minor semi-final against Mayo.

Burlingham replaced Jack Hannigan, who injured himself in the quarter-final win over Tyrone.

MEATH (MFC v Mayo): R Burlingham; D Smyth, B Power, S Gallagher; C Carton, S McEntee, S Lavin; P Harnan, A Flanagan; C O’Sullivan, J Daly, J McEntee; B Dardis, S Coogan, F Ward.
