Meath Board say thank you to Banty

The Meath County Board will send thank you letters to recently departed senior football team manager Seamus McEnaney and members of his backroom team following proposals at Monday night’s monthly meeting.

Irish officer Cathal Joyce said it would be common courtesy to send McEnaney a letter thanking him for his services and was supported in his sentiments by former chairman Pat O’Neill. Back in April the same board’s executive tabled a motion that McEnaney be removed from the position after his side was relegated to Division 3 of the league. After surviving the vote of no confidence, he guided Meath to the last 12 in the All-Ireland title race before stepping down.

Clubs have been invited to submit nominations for the Monaghan man’s successor but Walterstown delegate John Daly suggested current chairman Barney Allen should not be involved in the selection because he will not be in the position next year.

Meath’s top table has come under an amount of fire over the last few months but assistant secretary Francis Flynn hit out against the critics, saying that people should stop complaining about the officers unless they are prepared to stand for positions themselves at the annual convention.

Meanwhile there is a further hold up in Meath’s senior, intermediate and junior championships with fourth round fixtures scheduled for this weekend put back until after the All-Ireland minor semi-final against Mayo on Sunday week.
