Glanmire turn on the style in second-half
The victory was comfortable in the end as Glanmire found an extra gear in the final quarter with the likes of Alan Barry and Mark Hopkins producing some fine scores. But Killavullen know they could have provided a much sterner challenge had they not wasted so many chances in the first-half.
Michael Cussen was the outstanding player for Glanmire, particularly in the first-half when his side weren’t firing on all cylinders. Six-foot-seven Cussen was repeatedly deployed as a target man from kickouts and he was faultless under the high ball.
Feargal O’Reilly proved the main threat in the Glanmire attack early on, hitting three points inside 12 minutes. Despite repeatedly getting in behind the unconvincing Glanmire defence, Killavullen couldn’t make an impression on the scoreboard, racking up eight wides in the first-half.
Trailing 0-8 to 0-4 at half time, Killavullen had a dream start to the second-half with Patrick Egan finding the bottom corner of the Glanmire net to leave just a point between the teams.
Instead of inspiring a Killavullen comeback, however, the goal seemed to shock Glanmire into life and the East Cork outfit hit five points in as many minutes to settle the game and secure them another season of intermediate football.
