Owens steps down as Waterford boss

Waterford were knocked out of the qualifiers by Wicklow, having been heavily beaten by Limerick in their opening game of the Munster SFC.

Owens had reached the end of his three-year deal, having taken over the county’s footballers from John Kiely at the end of 2009, and helped the side gain promotion from Division 4.

Owens told county chairman Tom Cunningham of his decision yesterday and the board announced the news via Twitter.

The tweet read: “John Owens, Senior Football manager has stepped down from the position at the end of his term. Thanks John for 3 years of work & commitment.”
