Déise’s flying start crucial in final win over Tipperary

An outstanding first-half performance, decorated by a fine Roisin Tobin goal, effectively won this Munster Ladies IFC final for Waterford at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday.

Having started slowly, Waterford then clicked into gear around the 10-minute mark, striking five unanswered points to storm into a four-point lead. Edel Hanley pulled a point back for Tipperary but Tobin’s goal swung momentum back Waterford’s way, leaving them 1-7 to 0-4 ahead at the break.

Waterford’s intensity dropped after the restart but they never looked like letting Tipperary back into contention, with points from Michelle Ryan and the brilliant Elaine Power keeping the Premier County at bay.
