Johnston edges closer

Seanie Johnston will start for Coill Dubh hurlers in the first round of the Kildare SHC today, and will therefore be eligible to feature with Kildare for the remainder of their Leinster and All Ireland SFC campaign.

The former Cavan Gaels star met his new team-mates last night after it emerged members of the Coill Dubh team had serious reservations about Johnston being parachuted into the starting XV for their first championship match of the season.

However, it was subsequently confirmed that Johnston will start and then be substituted at the earliest break in play in the match against Éire Óg/Corrachoill.
