O’Neill: Attendances up this year

GAA president Liam O’Neill has rejected suggestions that crowds at inter-county games are down this season, stating that “attendances are up” on the 2011 season.

“Our attendances are actually up on last year,” said O’Neill yesterday. “When we prepare our figures we don’t count replays but our attendances are holding up.

“People are constantly trying to talk down things, but people are still coming to matches. The matches are good, we’re at a stage now when we have a double-header in Leinster coming up — the football semi-finals — and we expect a good crowd.
