Mourne star Brannigan sweats as CCCC convenes
The Down defender was shown on TV to have struck out against Fermanagh’s Marty McGrath during the counties’ Ulster quarter-final on Sunday.
If the CCCC find he has a case to answer, Brannigan could face a proposed one-match ban, which would rule him out of the county’s semi-final against Monaghan on June 24. As referee Syl Doyle appeared not to have seen the incident, the CCCC are free to investigate the incident.
In the same game, Fermanagh defender Darryl Keenan was dismissed for hitting Conor Laverty.
In the Leinster quarter-final draw between Longford and Wexford, Paul Barden was yellow-carded for hitting Brian Malone.
As referee Michael Collins booked Barden arising from the incident, it is unlikely the Longford player risks missing out on next Sunday’s replay in Tullamore.
On The Sunday Game, former Meath star Colm O’Rourke said Barden was lucky to escape with a yellow card. The CCCC are also expected to make a decision later today on Seanie Johnston’s long-awaited transfer from Cavan Gaels to St Kevin’s.
The Central Appeals Committee have advised the CCCC to grant the transfer.
However, the CCCC are believed to still have reservations about the proposed switch.
The committee will also confirm that Wexford and Longford’s replay will take place in O’Connor Park as part of a quarter-final double-header with Meath and Carlow.
The replay is set to be played at 4pm with the original fixture involving Meath and Carlow throwing in at 2pm.
The Leinster Council stated yesterday admission to the games will be €20 for the stand and €10 for the terraces.
