Kielys swoop for Minane Bridge

A brilliant second-half fightback ensured victory for Minane Bridge in a closely contested DH4 final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh yesterday.

A blistering goal from a placed ball by top scorer Alan Kiely five minutes from time proved the crucial score.

Berrings enjoyed a slim advantage at the break, 1-1 to 0-2, after an Ardal O’Connell free went all the way to the net. Prior to that, James O’Sullivan soloed through the middle to cancel out an earlier white flag from Alan Kiely. And it was another Kiely, Sean, who rifled over the winning point almost on the full time whistle.

Minane Bridge were also well served by Alain Laigneau, David Byrne and Paul O’Riordan while for Berrings Oisin and Callum Morris, James Buckley and Billy Barrett ensured this clash went down to the wire.

Kilcredan were crowned DH1 champions after a mighty battle against a resilient Glounthaune side in a marvellous DH1 final.

Kilcredan owe a lot to their goalkeeper, Jason Hankard, who pulled off a significant save right at the death from Eoin Monahan.

Indeed, Monahan and his opposite number, Eoghan Dorgan, were the big threats up front. Dorgan’s brace of green flags, excellently executed from the left corner, were the important scores for Kilcredan in the first half as they led 2-0 to 1-0, Monahan supplying the Glounthaune goal.

Boosted by strong play from Ger Millerick, Patrick Flanagan and Donal Griffin, Kilcredan closed out with points from Adrian Leahy and Millerick. Ronan Twomey bagged a couple of points for Glounthaune who also had big returns from Daniel Hanratty, Eoin Horgan, Max Philpott and Sean McKeever.

Ovens 3-1 GS Uí Riordáin, Ballincollig 1-2

Ovens took the spoils in an incredibly exciting and skilful C2 final.

Two goals in the opening half laid the foundations for the Ovens victory.

A goal from a 45 from Eleanor O’Leary and a superb effort from Fiona Murphy put Ovens 2-0 to 0-1 to the fore at the interval — Laura Ní Riordáin supplying Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin’s point. However, with the outstanding Ciara Ní Aodha running herself to a standstill, the Ballincollig school were still a threat.

Ovens upped the tempo after the break with Eadaoin O’Connell tremendous in defence, midfielders Grace Collins and O’Leary impressive too. When Emma Cleary set up Aisling Murray for Ovens’ third goal they were in a strong position. Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin got a goal of their own from Ní Riordáin, but Ovens were not to be denied.
