Tyrone advance to cup final

This year’s Lory Meagher Cup final will be an all-Ulster affair after Tyrone and Fermanagh emerged victorious in their respective semi-finals yesterday.

Tyrone advance to cup final

Tyrone were pushed all the way by Warwickshire at Páirc na hEireann in Birmingham before eventually prevailing 2-15 to 1-16.

The Red Hands laid the foundations for their victory with goals from Conor Grogan and Ger Gilmore for a 2-6 to 0-8 interval lead.

A goal by Down native Kieran Courtney brought the hosts back into it, but Tyrone did just enough to set up a June 9 Croke Park showdown with their neighbours Fermanagh, who overcame Leitrim 3-16 to 2-12 in the other semi-final at Maguiresbridge.

The Allianz League Division 3B champions found Leitrim much tougher than when the sides met in the final round of the league just over a month ago.

The visitors flew out of the starting blocks and led by 2-4 to 1-1 after 15 minutes, but Fermanagh hit back with goals from Declan McGarry and Sean Corrigan to take a 3-9 to 2-6 lead into the break, and they outscored Martin Cunniffe’s men by 0-7 to 0-6 in the second half to make the decider.
