Abbeyside’s late rally rescues dramatic draw

The tie of the Waterford championship weekend lived up to expectations with Dungarvan and Abbeyside finishing level after a thrilling spectacle at Fraher Field on Saturday evening.

Abbeyside’s late rally rescues dramatic draw

Abbeyside led 1-9 to 0-8 at half-time with Patrick Hurney goaling in the 17th minute. But wind-assisted Dungarvan enjoyed the better of the second half and looked set for victory when edging two points clear. But deep in injury time, Mark Ferncombe and Michael O’Halloran, held their nerve to snatch a draw (0-18 to 1-15).

The opening action of the weekend results in a second successive shock defeat for champions Ballygunner who lost to Ballyduff Upper at Fraher Field (0-16 to 0-13) with the winner’s goalkeeper Adrian Power denying the Gunners with a superb last-gasp save.
