Sweeney: CCCC have treated Johnston badly

Kildare’s Ronan Sweeney has hit out at the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) for their treatment of Seanie Johnston as he looks set to be denied the chance to play for the county this year.

Sweeney: CCCC have treated Johnston badly

KFM Sport yesterday reported the Cavan native won’t be able to line out for Kildare in the championship as the CCCC are not expected to meet again until Monday. Johnston’s intended new club St Kevin’s, Staplestown open up their senior championship campaign tomorrow.

As part of the inter-county transfer eligibility rule passed at Congress last month, Johnston had to play with the club in a championship game before he could represent Kildare.

It had been claimed Johnston had all the necessary paperwork done but the CCCC were not willing to call an earlier hearing.

Johnston had been training with Kildare and was in the party at the recent Division 2 final win over Tyrone in Croke Park.
