McEnaney recruits Evans to join Royals backroom team

Meath boss Seamus McEnaney has added former Tipperary supremo John Evans to his backroom team ahead of next month’s Leinster SFC opener against Wicklow.

Kerry native Evans has been drafted in as an additional coach to work alongside Martin McElkennon.

Embattled McEnaney has also recalled Ballinlough clubman Peadar Byrne to his panel as he looks for a response from a team recently relegated to Division 3 of the Allianz Football League.

Evans was credited with reviving the fortunes of Tipperary football after taking over as the county’s senior football team boss in 2007.

He masterminded successive promotions from Division 4 to Division 2 but under his watch, the Premier County tumbled back into the fourth tier of league football this year. Evans stepped down from the Tipperary post following a heavy defeat to Sligo in March.
