Sheridan set for sensational Royal u-turn

Joe Sheridan is expected to arrive back in Ireland from Boston on Friday to resume his Meath football career.

Sheridan set for sensational Royal u-turn

Seamus McEnaney has persuaded the Seneschalstown man to return in time to prepare for the county’s Leinster SFC first round game against Wicklow on May 27.

Efforts are currently being made to source work for Sheridan who left for the US after receiving a better job offer as an electrician and living in Dorchester, South Boston.

It is understood McEnaney had kept in regular touch with Sheridan since his departure following the league game against Galway six weeks ago.

The Monaghan native had been working over the last five days to entice the 2009 All Star nominee to don the Meath jersey again this year and an agreement was reached on Monday.

The 27-year-old had been lining out for the Wolfe Tones club in Boston and recently competed in a sevens competition in New York.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner at the tournament earlier this month, Sheridan warned more GAA players would follow his example.

Tipperary duo Barry Grogan and Brian Jones are expected to depart for Boston tomorrow where they will link up with the same club.

However, Sheridan is about to complete a sensational u-turn which will be a significant boost for McEnaney who only last week survived a termination motion proposed by the Meath County Board executive.

It’s been reported McEnaney and chairman Barney Allen have held conciliatory talks after Allen had asked the Corduff man to step down before unsuccessfully requesting delegates last Wednesday to remove him from the position and replace him with Seán Boylan.

The motion failed to receive the required two-thirds majority although 58% of delegates voted against McEnaney staying on.

Sheridan previously left the panel in 2007 after suffering a loss of confidence before returning the following season. He is on record as expressing his concerns about prospective employers’ reluctance to recruit inter-county players because of the demands the game places on them.
