Offaly’s Gerry Cooney became the second manager in the past 10 days to resign after a players’ meeting.

The Meath man was only at the Faithful County helm for six months but oversaw a nightmare Allianz Football League campaign, which ended with relegation to the basement tier after losing six of their seven games.

“Gerry and his management team had a lengthy meeting with the panel of players last night and afterwards Gerry tendered his resignation in what he described as the best interest of Offaly football,” said Offaly chairman Pat Teehan. He thanked Gerry for his loyalty and 100% dedication.
