Starlet Guiney sensational as clinical Wexford crush Laois

Teenager Jack Guiney proved an inspiration for Wexford as he struck 3-5 to help confine Laois to next year’s Allianz Hurling League Division 2A at Nowlan Park yesterday.

Laois raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead inside five minutes, but once 19-year-old Guiney struck for the game’s opening goal to give his side a 1-7 to 0-8 lead, Wexford never looked back.

Laois fought valiantly and six successive points left the Model County clinging to a three-point lead, 3-11 to 0-17. But an immediate response, through David Redmond’s goal, saw them secure their status for next year.
