Banner boys have easy passage to semi-finals
In a very one-sided affair, the host county raced into a 1-7 to no score lead by the 10th minute. They retired 1-10 to 0-2 in front at the break, forging ahead in the second half against a Waterford side that could only manage one score from play, a Donal Scanlon effort on the hour.
The hosts were well served by the Cleary twins, Eoin and Conor in the full-forward line, with Eoin netting the first goal in the eighth minute. The pair were ably assisted up front by Barry Lynch, son of All-Star hurler Colin, who had three points. The winner’s second green flag came with three minutes left on the clock, when sub Conor Deasy goaled following a hand-pass by Niall Pender.
