Murphy goal seals points as Carlow end Déise hopes
The hosts led just once when Gary Hurney opened the scoring with a fourth minute point, but it was Carlow who went in at the break with a deserved 0-6 to 0-5 advantage.
Three rapid-fire points on the restart consolidated the victors’ position, and they put the issue beyond doubt when their outstanding player, Brendan Murphy, finished off a great move with a goal seven minutes from time.
To compound Waterford’s misery, Gary Hurney was dismissed on a straight red in the final seconds.
