The foundation for the win was laid in the first half as Wicklow turned in a sparkling display and goals by Dara O’Sullivan and Tony Hannon gave them a 2-7 to 0-4 lead at the break.
There was much to savour about Wicklow’s performance in the opening 35 minutes, Ciaran Hyland, Stephen Kelly and Dean Healy providing the leadership in defence and Tony Hannon, Seanie Furlong and Darragh O’Sullivan calling the tune in attack.
Leitrim came back into the game in the second half and Paddy McGowan found the net to narrow the gap, but the westerners never looked like overhauling the home side.
