Destination of match of no concern to Tribe’s Ó Flatharta

Galway selector Donal Ó Flatharta has downplayed the importance of the venue for this week’s Allianz Football League clash with Monaghan.

Sunday’s crunch Division 2 game is currently fixed for Pearse Park in Longford, but the Ulster side are appealing that to GAA chiefs.

Ó Flatharta said: “There is a little doubt about the venue for the match against Monaghan, the latest on that is that it is a neutral venue. Pearse Park is the venue now, but Monaghan have the right to appeal to the CCCC and I think they can go to the DRA after that. The chances are that it will be pushed on and we won’t know until later in the week. It is not a factor for us. We will get on with it and it doesn’t matter to us.”

He also confirmed midfielder Fiontan Ó Curraoin will undergo an ankle operation tomorrow and he will be out for 10-12 weeks.

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland SFC club final replay between Crossmaglen Rangers and Garrycastle has been fixed for Saturday week, March 31, in Kingspan Breffni Park at 5pm.
