Champs Rossas rocked by Bantry

Last year’s county champions O’Donovan Rossa were knocked out at the Carbery U21AFC semi-final stage on Saturday at Leap.

Bantry produced a final sprint to outscore the champions in a contest where substitute Ciarán Darcy kicked over a late winning point to send the Blues through to a meeting with the winners of Clonakilty and Castlehaven in the final.

Bantry started in swashbuckling style with David Power goaling inside the first minute. Mark Delaney followed with a point but they became too dependant on freetaker Rory Deane for scores. Points from attackers, Jonathan and Kevin Davis pulled Skibbereen back level.

Donal Óg Hodnett converted a free to ease Skibb ahead before Jack O’Donovan extended their lead after a goal-bound Kevin Davis effort took the combined efforts of Donal Casey and Shane Edgeworth to save. Rory Deane ended a 25-minute Bantry scoring drought and Skibb managed just a single score in the final 20 minutes from corner back David Hazel. This, along with a storming Bantry finish, proved to be their undoing.
