Red Hands see off Donegal to escape drop

Tyrone ensured survival in the top flight of the Bord Gáis Ladies NFL with victory over Donegal on Sunday.

Ace forward Joline Donnelly scored 1-5 for the Red Hands as they ran out 2-13 to 3-4 winners over hosts Donegal in Ballybofey. Donegal are now locked in a desperate relegation battle with just one round of fixtures remaining in a fortnight’s time.

Kildare prop up the table with just one point from six matches and the Lilywhites suffered a 0-3 to 0-22 hiding from table-toppers and holders Cork, who maintained their perfect record this season. The final round of group fixtures will see Kildare travel to Monaghan, who are already assured of a place in the semi-finals, while Donegal host Meath.

In Division 2, Mayo are top following a 1-9 to 1-7 victory over Kerry. Cora Staunton scored 1-7 for Mayo while Triona McNicholas added two points for the Westerners, who trailed 1-3 to 1-5 at half-time. Mayo, Galway and Kerry are through to the semi-finals and will most likely be joined by Clare.

Tipp are bottom and in danger of relegation ahead of the final round of fixtures, as the Premier County trail Fermanagh by a point. In Division 3, Westmeath, Armagh and Leitrim are all locked on 15 points, with Down almost certain of a top four finish.

In Division 4, Longford are top with Louth and Carlow propping up the table.
