Christy Cooney believes it will be up to ‘other people and history’ to adjudicate on his leadership of the GAA which ends when he hands over the reins to incoming President Liam O’Neill in Portlaoise next month.

However, the consensus view from a wide cross-section of personalities representative of all strands of the Association who gathered in the Youghal club pavilion on Saturday evening was that his term marked a period of sustained growth and advancement.

There to honour him and his family, were Director-General Paraic Duffy, Camogie President Joan O’Flynn, Cork secretary Frank Murphy, former Munster chairman Jimmy O’Gorman and numerous others who were associated with him at club, divisional and county level.
