McCormack points lift Longford
Corner-forward Sean McCormack’s contribution of 10 points — a haul that included seven superbly converted frees — was the key in Longford’s fourth successive Division 3 win against the hosts, who toiled with 14 players for the last 20 minutes after full-back Johnny Martyn picked up a second booking.
Sligo flickered briefly when their main threat, Adrian Marren, goaled in the 14th minute to put Kevin Walsh’s charges ahead for the first and only time, 1-1 to 0-3. But Longford’s instant response of 1-1 — the goal a stinger from Paul Barden — put the Glenn Ryan-managed visitors on course for a 1-7 to 1-3 interval lead.
