Wexford record facile 15-point win over Tipperary despite late double dismissal
The game was dominated by a card happy referee Brian O’Shea who issued 14 yellow cards. Wexford finished the game with 13 players having Paddy Byrne straight red carded on 60 minutes, and David Murphy on a second yellow three minutes later.
Wexford dominated this game despite having fallen 1-1 to 0-1 after just five minutes, with Peter Achenson goaling for the visitors after just four minutes.
Playing with the wind, Wexford took the lead four minutes later, when Red Barry fired superbly to the net, and with Ben Brosnan, PJ Banville and Ciaran Lyng pointing, they went on to build an interval lead of 1-12 to 1-5.
It mattered little that Wexford played into the wind in the second half as they resumed with four unanswered points through Ciaran Lyng, free, Brosnan, two frees, and PJ Banville to lead 1-16 to 1-5 after 42 minutes.
Wexford’s second goal arrived in the 62nd minute when Banville shot low to the left hand corner of the net, while on 70 minutes, Lyng had a penalty saved by Matthew O’Donnell.
