Boost for Down boss
Kevin McKernan returned from his travels in Australia yesterday while Ambrose Rogers, Eoin McCartan and Conor Garvey are all pushing for starting places having made an impact as substitutes in the victory over Jim McGuinness’s side.
It was felt that Garvey, who has had ankle, knee and shoulder problems lately, would not be available until the game against Kerry on March 3 at the earliest. However, not only did his arrival in the action clearly bolster the side on Saturday last but he also scored what proved to be the winning point.
While Anto McArdle and Kalum King are still suspended, there is the strong possibility Declan Rooney and Conor Maginn will be available when the league action resumes.
“We were initially faced with big problems, but the return of some players is a welcome boost as is that win over Donegal,” says McCartan.
“Obviously we are confronted with a difficult assignment against Cork but if we could get something out of this match it would give us that little bit more confidence for when the league resumes.”
