Counihan: We were lucky to win league

Conor Counihan concedes Cork might have learned more about themselves by losing last year’s Allianz Division 1 final than beating Dublin.

He saw his side last April win their second successive league title after clawing back an eight-point deficit with 30 minutes to go. But asked if he felt Cork would have been better served going into the championship by losing the game, Counihan replied: “Strange as it may seem, it might have been.”

He admits the inclination of the management wasn’t to ask why Cork had found themselves so far behind.
