Kildare club hail Johnston but Gaels await transfer request

County boss Val Andrews deemed the talented Johnston surplus to requirements and the talisman quickly set about seeking a transfer in a bid to be eligible for intercounty football with the Lilywhites.

Johnston is a secondary school teacher in Cavan but has an address in Straffan. With Straffan playing at intermediate level, Johnston has opted for St Kevin’s, a senior side based only 10 minutes away.

Johnston met with St Kevin’sofficials on Monday and agreed to move.

“Seanie has chosen to transfer to St Kevin’s and we are delighted to have him” said St Kevin’s PRO, Paul Kenny.

“He will be a huge addition and will bring invaluable experience to the team.”

Johnston’s home club, Cavan Gaels, have not received any paperwork relating to the proposed move.

“We can officially confirm that we have not received any transfer requests from any player within [the] club, or have we signed any transfer forms,” the club’s official twitter account reported last night.
