O’Sullivan back with Cork footballers

ATTACKER Kevin O’Sullivan is set to return to the Cork senior football squad for their 2012 seasonal opener in the McGrath Cup against Clare on Sunday.

O’Sullivan, who featured in the 2007 All-Ireland final, has been rewarded for impressive club form in the county championship with Ilen Rovers last year and returns after last playing for Cork against Wexford in the NFL in March 2009.

“Kevin has a lot of experience and he showed up very well with his club last year,” revealed selector Ger O’Sullivan.

Injuries and college commitments mean Cork are without 11 players for the Páirc Uí Rinn clash but Colm O’Neill is poised to return after a long-term cruciate injury while last year’s All-Ireland junior winners Kevin Harrington and Liam Shorten, 2007 All-Ireland U21 winner Seanie Cahalane, last year’s Cork U21 midfielder Micheal Ó Laoire and Nemo defender Aidan O’Reilly are newcomers in line to feature.

Meanwhile, Kerry senior defender Shane Enright and Kerins O’Rahilly’s player Brian Moran, older brother of county star David, are notable additions to the UCC squad for their trip to face Limerick in Rathkeale on Sunday.

Cork senior trio Ken O’Halloran, Sean Kiely and James Fitzpatrick, and Kerry senior Daithí Casey are players the Sigerson Cup champions have lost but they are boosted by the availability of Paul Geaney and Gavin O’Grady.

McGRATH CUP (Sunday 2pm, ET if required): CIT v IT Tralee, CIT Sportsgrounds; Cork v Clare, Páirc Ui Rinn; Tipperary v WIT, Clonmel Sportsfield; Limerick v UCC, Michael Neville Park, Rathkeale.
