Kennedy’s move from his native Ballyduff Lower will be a major boost to the city side, who are already anchored by Waterford seniors John Mullane and Kevin Moran, as they seek to regain their county senior hurling crown in 2012.

The proposed transfer must still be rubber-stamped at the first Waterford County Board meeting of the year, which is to take place later this month, on January, 23 but it is understood that it is likely to be passed without objections.

Kennedy quit the inter-county senior hurling scene in July 2009 in the wake of Waterford’s Munster SHC final defeat against Tipperary, a game where he was withdrawn from his left half-forward role after 27 minutes of the Semple Stadium clash.

During his Déise senior career he won two Munster senior hurling medals in 2004 and 2007, and also claimed a National Hurling League medal in 2007. Kennedy, who shot 0-3 during his substitute appearance in the 2004 All-Ireland semi-final defeat against Kilkenny, is generally recognised as an attacker but displayed his versatility as he played at midfield in the 2007 National League final win over Kilkenny and lined out at left half-back during their Munster final win over Limerick later that summer.
